Prospect: Pay deal for health staff falls 'substantially short'

Ballot for members over 4% offer starts today

Health and social care workers could take industrial action – and go on strike – if agreement can't be reached over a pay deal with Manx Care.

Prospect will begin balloting its members today to determine whether they want to accept a four per cent increase.

A consultative ballot took place at the end of last year with 98 per cent of respondents saying they would be prepared to take stronger action.

Mick Hewer is the negotiations officer - he says the offer falls 'substantially short':

The Prospect ballot will run until 18 March – a separate ballot, for Royal College of Nursing members, will also take place next month.

Manx Care says it believes the offer highlights a 'commitment to colleagues' and is 'significantly more' than the initial one per cent that was budgeted.
