Prince Edward opens Commonwealth Youth Games

It's the first full day of action in the fourth Commonwealth Youth Games, after last night's spectacular opening ceremony.

Around 3,000 athletes, spectators and dignitaries packed into the Bowl stadium, with thousands more watching and listening online from around the Commonwealth, as the biggest ever sporting event in the Isle of Man began in a carnival atmosphere.

The 90-minute ceremony was based around Manx culture and traditions, and the Games were declared open by Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, in his capacity as vice patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation.

the Games Station by Manx Radio will be reporting live on the action in the seven sports from 9am today (Friday).

The coverage is available on AM 1368, via the internet at manxradio.com, and on two special FM frequencies, 100.6 for the listeners at the National Sports Centre, and 87.9 for people tuned in anywhere in Douglas.

The Games Station will be on air until 9pm today, and from 8.30am to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition the coverage will be on Manx Radio's normal FM frequencies from 10.30am to 6pm on Saturday.
