Primary pupils in UV experiment

Children at Murray's Road Primary School in Douglas have received watches which can tell them when they are receiving too many harmful Ultraviolet rays.

The year six pupils are taking part in a trial scheme organised by the Public Health Directorate and the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association.

The watches feature a series of UV-sensitive faces.

When a happy face is showing the children are not at risk of sunburn, but when it's sad they know they are in danger of harming their skin.

Health Minister Eddie Teare says the idea is not to discourage children from playing outside, but to give them the ability to make up their own minds:
