Post Office disputes outgoing vice chair's claims

Statement issued in response

Isle of Man Post Office is disputing the claims of its outgoing vice chair about how the new retail strategy is being implemented.

Tanya August-Hanson MLC yesterday announced she was resigning from the role because of what she described as a 'disparity' between the strategy approved in Tynwald last year, and the practical roll-out of it.

A statement released by the post office thanks Ms August-Hanson for her service, but adds that the board strongly believes, contrary to her resignation statement, that its retail strategy and the rollout are very much aligned.

The statement goes on to say the post office is following a clear path on its transformation journey, which has been approved and supported by Tynwald, including Ms August-Hanson.

It adds that the post office consults appropriately to ensure it continues to provide the service and standard requirements of its commercial customers, prior to making any decision to change services - a process which has been followed throughout Ms August-Hanson’s tenure as Vice Chairman.

The post office also says it is committed to ensuring postal services are retained in the communities which make up Island life, while ensuring they are provided in a financially and socially responsible manner.

Customer demand is a significant factor in the retail strategy in deciding how and where services will be provided in the future.
