Positive outlook for young people with depression

A Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in the Isle of Man says the outlook for young people diagnosed with depression is very positive.

Dr Derek Proudlove says around five per cent of youngsters suffer from depression to a significant extent, making it a more common illness than people might think.

But since the root of problems tend to be family, school or peer group orientated, there's a good chance of leaving them behind as the person matures.

Dr Proudlove says parents play a major role in ensuring the mental well being of their children.
