Positive impact of community service highlighted

More than 3,500 hours of unpaid work could be completed in 2016

More organisations are looking to take advantage of community service schemes in the Isle of Man, according to the Department of Home Affairs.

As well as being seen as a useful alternative to prison for some lower-level offenders, community service has been having a positive impact in other ways, too.

Projects such as the building of cycle trails and paths at Archallagan plantation and clean-up operations in various places have been carried out.

It's estimated more than 3,500 hours of unpaid work will be completed by weekend work groups in 2016.
