Port Erin cancels November fireworks display

Commissioners decide to spend funds on summer events

Bonfire Night celebrations in Port Erin have been cancelled this year, with commissioners deciding budgets would be 'better spent' over the summer.

The local authority says the money for the fireworks display, which costs around £6000, will be put towards events during the warmer months.

As a result of the Island's border closure and a halt to the tourism industry, commissioners say they want increase the number of local visitors coming to Port Erin.

It's hoped the move will also support shops and businesses in the village.

A calendar of events will be released in due course.
