Political parties react to report analysing Island's housing requirements

OAHN predicts almost 10,000 homes needed to house additional residents

Manx political party Liberal Vannin is calling on the government to set a target of at least 200 affordable homes built annually for the next five years.

It comes after a long-awaited report into the Island's housing requirements - now and in the future - has been published.

The Objective Assessment of Housing Need predicts around 10,000 new homes will be needed by 2041; and that government will miss its target of reaching a population of 100,000 by 2037.

The Manx Labour Party believes the Isle of Man's planning, healthcare and education systems are incapable of hosting that many new residents.

Member Devon Watson says he feels 'deeply frustrated' that government is failing to tackle the housing crisis.

It's predicted the Isle of Man will only have a population of 94,000 by 2041.
