The police are asking witnesses and those with information about the death to come forward, especially if you were in the area of Laxey Post Office opposite the Bridge Inn between 1am and 7am.

You can speak to officers on 631212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Inspector Willson says the coroner of inquests has been notified and a Home Office pathologist is due on the Island tomorrow to conduct a post mortem.

New Road Laxey is closed between its junctions with Minorca Hill and Old Laxey Hill.

And Captains Hill is shut between its junctions with New Road and Church Hill.

Police say they expect the roads to be closed for some time yet.

Public transport has been affected too; buses have been diverted via the Mountain Road and the Manx Electric Railway's service has been suspended for the day.
