Plans for TT accommodation 'village' on former prison site

Two-bed cabins would be available during racing festival

Permission is being sought to create a TT accommodation 'village' on the site of a former prison.

The Department for Enterprise wants to create living areas, and associated facilities, on Victoria Road in Douglas.

In its application it says the need for accommodation was identified with TT sponsors.

They highlighted a lack of available living areas during the racing festival for those who wanted to be near the paddock but not sleep in a tent.

If approved 12 rows of 14 two-bed cabins would be created which would be availlable for 17 days - from 27 May to 12 June - and would be operated by Duke Events Ltd.

They would take eight days to construct beforehand and four days to take down afterwards.

They'd be maintained by an on-site manager and have security and housekeeping services.

A similar application at the site was approved for 2020 but was cancelled that year after racing on Island was called off due to Covid-19.

The plans are pending consideration.
