Plans for angling complex in west of Island

A Castletown company says it wants to build a new tourist facility for fishermen in the West of the Island.

Sunset Lakes Ltd of The Parade in Castletown has applied for permission to build the complex just north of Peel.

The venue on Ballagyr Lane would house a cafe, educational centre and four holiday cottages along with lakes for anglers.

In its application, the company says there are no recognised coarse angling facilities on the Island – only isolated sites with poor facilities.

Sunset Lakes says its proposals would create a unique wildlife centre which could be used by Island schools.

Three lakes, each around six acres in size, would be built– the firm estimates up to 20,000 anglers visit the Island each year.

The project would take up to 10 months to complete – if approved – and the company says it would rest the lakes for at least another 12 months to allow fish stocks to build up.

You can find out more about the application on the government’s website gov.im
