Past politicians scared to tackle housing issue - Robertshaw

The social care minister says politicians have in the past 'bought votes', by not tackling the ever-growing problems with local authority housing in the Isle of Man.

From April, any new tenants go into the properties on two-year agreements, which minister Chris Robertshaw hopes will help create more fluidity in the system.

He says currently there's only around a 10% turnover of properties annually, with waiting lists growing ever-longer.

Speaking live on Mandate today, Mr Robertshaw told James Davis politicians had been too scared to face up to the issue in the past:
