Pakistani athletes in bomb scare drama

The Pakistan team for the Commonwealth Youth Games has been caught up in a bomb scare.

The Pakistan International Airlines flight from Lahore to Manchester, on which the athletes and officials were travelling, was forced to land at Istanbul in Turkey when a threat to its safety was received.

Sniffer dogs were sent to check for explosives after passengers were taken by bus to the terminal from a remote part of the airfield.

No suspicious items were found and the flight was cleared to continue its journey.

There is concern about whether the Pakistan team will make it to the Isle of Man in time for the opening ceremony.

Rwanda is another country said to be experiencing problems getting to the games.

The opening ceremony starts at 7.15pm today (Thursday), and there will be full, live coverage on Manx Radio, for two hours from 7pm.

The coverage will also be available on the Games Station by Manx Radio, on the AM 1368 frequency, online at manxradio.com and on two special FM frequencies.

The FM frequencies are 100.6 for the listeners at the National Sports Centre, and 87.9 for people tuned in anywhere in Douglas.

The Games Station will broadcast from 9am to 9pm on Friday (September 9), and from 8.30am to 9pm on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition the coverage will be on Manx Radio's normal FM frequencies from 10.30am to 6pm on Saturday.
