'Optional' self isolation reduction from 14 days to seven

Chief minister announces policy change

The Island's policy on coronavirus self isolation when returning to the Isle of Man, is shifting to an 'optional' quarantine time from 14 days to seven.

It was announced by the chief minister at today's 'one off' media conference, the first since the end of July.

The change to come in from next Monday (7 September) comes with caveats though, as Howard Quayle explains:

The process you must go through to be allowed the seven-day quarantine is as follows:

  • Request a test on seventh day of quarantine, call 111 services to arrange one and pay £50 if you want one.
  • Then you'll need to go to the grandstand, where a swab will be taken, from your throat and up your nose - this sample will be tested for the virus.
  • After which, the 111 service will call back the next day to give you a result.
  • If it's positive, you must complete a full 14 days isolation starting from that day.
  • If it's negative, you can leave your home but must adhere to further restrictions for six more days.
  • You can't go to pubs, gyms, swimming pools, theatres and more.

It's day 106 of no new reported cases of Covid-19 here - there have been 10,194 tests undertaken in total.

In the last month, the Health Minister David Ashford says the department has expanded its microbiological efforts to enable further testing.
