Isle of Man schools will no longer send out 'alert' letters warning parents about head lice.

The traditional letter Is aimed at encouraging parents to check their child's scalp for lice.

But the practice has been branded illogical - as letters are not sent home about other, more serious diseases.

And previous guidance - that children should stay at home until free of head lice - has also been dropped.

Acting Director of Public Health Dr Parameshrawan Kishore says schools are NOT to blame - even though many families find the problem has returned with the new term:
