New reservoir officially opened

A new reservoir to supply water for the whole of the north of the Island has been officially opened today (Monday).

The underground storage facility at Glen Auldyn was opened by chairman of the Water and Sewerage Authority Graham Cregeen.

Work on constructing a new one-and-a-half million gallon service reservoir at Ramsey began in 2010.

Its aim was to fulfil the water authority's strategic business plan to supply treated water of a consistently high standard from the Sulby water treatment works to all homes and businesses in the north of the Island.

The new facility replaces the Ballure service reservoir, first constructed in the 1860s.

Mr Cregeen gave a speech at today's opening, which allowed local VIPs, MHK Eddie Teare, staff from the water and sewerage authoroity and reporters to view the facility and hear from some of the construction companies involved in building it.
