Planning sought for new office units
Planning permission is being sought to construct new office accommodation in the grounds of The Nunnery in order to stop the estate becoming ‘obsolete’.
The International Centre for Technology Limited wants to construct eight, two storey, lettable units with associated access and parking.
It says it needs to make the area, on Old Castletown Road, ‘financially sustainable’ to enable further capital investment.
If approved the existing stable buildings would be demolished and two replacement buildings constructed – the paddock would be used to create additional parking and a pond.
Both stable buildings are said to be in poor condition and used for general storage; no horses are kept at the Nunnery site.
The new units would be ‘particularly suitable’ for start-up or expanding businesses.
The Nunnery estate passed into the ownership of the International Centre for Technology Limited in 2015.
University College Isle of Man uses the mansion house there for business studies and information technology students.
The proposed development requires the removal of a number of trees.
The plans are pending consideration.
