Nearly half of vehicles stopped had defect

Results from annual police winter checks campaign

Forty-five percent of vehicles stopped in the police annual winter checks campaign had a defect.

In total, 434 were stopped in the two-week operation with 199 having a fault.

Police worked alongside customs officers and vehicle examiners in locations across the Island with both evening and morning sessions.

Those with an obvious lighting issue were pulled over along with random stops.

Fifteen HGV's were checked and all were found to be roadworthy with a correct operator licence.

Officers say they have noticed an increasing number of English registered cars with 30 stopped.

However, the vast majority were booked in for a test.

Although the official campaign has ended, police say they will continue to stop vehicles with a defect and those carrying non-Manx number plates.
