Natural gas conversion for thousands of homes

Up to 6,500 homes across the Island could be converted to natural gas this year, if Tynwald approves the move.

A huge operation would see appliances in homes on mains gas inspected by officials to make sure they’ll work on the new fuel.

If the move was made it should mean a reduction in gas bills for consumers.

The project was discussed by Castletown commissioners at a meeting earlier this week, when chairman Alwyn Collister explained the conversion process.

He says all homes could expect a visit to check whether cookers and boilers need changing over.
