Cal Crutchlow fined for failing to tax vehicle since 2015
A court’s heard how an oversight meant a Moto GP rider’s van hadn’t been taxed for around four years.
Thirty-three-year-old Cal Crutchlow of Briarville Gardens in Ramsey couldn’t attend court in person as he’s currently away in Thailand.
He pleaded guilty to having no tax on his UK-registered VW Transporter through his advocate at a hearing before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.
The court heard Crutchlow, who rides for the LCR Honda team, used the van to take motorbikes to race meetings and had imported it from the UK.
Prosecution advocate James Robinson told the hearing police saw the van on Glencrutchery Road in Douglas at 2.30pm on Friday, 16 August.
They stopped it after computer checks showed it hadn’t had valid tax or an MOT since 2015.
Crutchlow’s advocate told the court he’d relied on staff to tax the van and hadn’t realised it had run out because the vehicle was still insured.
Mrs Hughes handed him a £200 fine and also ordered him to pay a £50 contribution towards prosecution costs.
