More than 400 sign petition opposing Laxey sewage plan

Importance of planning comments stressed

More than 400 people from Laxey and Garwick have signed a petition against plans to build a sewage treatment works by the village harbour.

Community stalwart Stewart Clague presented the document at a public meeting last night (3 March).

He's been working as part of the Best for Laxey Bay opposition group to champion the 'pump not dump' solution of connecting the village's sewerage to IRIS.

Mr Clague spoke to Local Democracy Reporter Ewan Gawne:

Residents were encouraged to make sure they submit views on the sewage plant application to planning authorities, before the March 20 deadline.

It's understood residents may be able to pass on comments as late as 24 hours before the planning committee is due to consider an application.

Garff Commissioners are consulted as part of the planning process - chairman Jamie Smith told Ewan that members will consider the 'bigger picture' when it comes to Manx Utilities' plans:
