Mo Sherring discusses benefits of Pilates during lockdown

Pilates creator interned on Island during WW1

A local Pilates instructor has been highlighting how ideal the sport can be to help keep people's minds and bodies healthy during a time that can have a negative impact on both.

Mo Sherring has been teaching Pilates for more than 20 years and has adapted to the outbreak by doing online lessons, which can be found on the Manx Radio Sport page.

Mo was also the very first person to teach the sport on the Isle of Man since its founder, Joseph Pilates, was released from the Knockaloe internment camp 100 years ago, at the end of the First World War.

It's believed that during his time interned on the Island, Joseph Pilates helped save the lives of hundreds of prisoners of war during the influenza pandemic, through his focus on keeping both body and mind healthy.

In a similar time now, Mo says Pilates is ideal for those who can't leave the house, a good way to stick to social distancing rules, and more of a physical workout than many realise:
