Minke whale washed-up on western beach

 

Members of the public are being urged not to go near the carcase of a dead whale which has been washed up on Glen Maye beach.

The advice comes from Island vet Karl Bovenizer who was called out to examine the creature by the Manx Wildlife Trust last night.

Under international law, Island authorities are required to investigate reports of stranded marine mammals and an autopsy was carried out on the shore. 

Tests suggest the Minke whale died from natural causes.

The 20 foot long whale's remains have been left on the beach but people out walking should not go near it. 

Karl says it's an unpleasant sight - but moving it is just not practical:
