65-year-old told police: "I just didn't see him"
A Douglas man who hit and injured a motorbike rider has been banned from the road for 12 months.
Alasdair Campbell, of Murrays Lake Drive, pulled out in front of the man on Main Road in Santon on 15 February.
At Douglas Courthouse the 65-year-old admitted causing serious bodily harm by driving without consideration.
Campbell, who was driving a Mini Cooper, struck the rider as he emerged from the Mount Murray Back Road later telling police: “I just didn’t see him”.
The court heard the motorcyclist had fractured his tibia and suffered ligament damage to his knee and is still undergoing treatment.
Describing the incident as ‘very unfortunate’ Campbell’s advocate told the court: “It was simply a momentary lapse of concentration. He still doesn’t know where that motorcycle came from.”
Magistrates fined him £1,200 and ordered him to pay prosecution costs of £50 – Campbell was also disqualified from driving for a year and until he’s taken, and passed, an extended driving test.
