MHK calls for reversal of decision to end face-to-face Parentcraft sessions

Joney Faragher believes it's a 'cost-cutting measure' despite assurances from minister

A Douglas East MHK has called for the decision to stop face-to-face Parentcraft sessions for expectant mothers on the Isle of Man to be reversed.

Pregnant women still aren’t being offered any additional support - in person or virtually – from the health service.

That’s despite an assurance from the health and social care minister that new online resources would be available by early February.

You can find out more HERE.

Parentcraft sessions for women were stopped last year leading to a retired midwife stepping in to fill the gap; an initiative that’s not being supported by the DHSC or Manx Care.

Face-to-face sessions for expectant fathers are still being run.

Joney Faragher says the Island should not be relying on volunteers to provide an ‘essential service’ for expectant mothers and has queried why a hybrid model wasn’t considered.

She told Manx Radio she believes this is a cost-cutting measure despite being told otherwise by the DHSC minister:

Manx Radio has invited the Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian, and Manx Care, to respond.
