Memorial garden for 'Florence Nightingale of the Isle of Man'

Plans announced after campaign by Ballakermeen students

A nurse described as the Florence Nightingale of the Isle of Man is to be recognised with a memorial garden at Noble's Hospital.

Nelly Brennan, who treated patients during the cholera outbreak, will be recognised following a campaign by pupils at Ballakermeen High School.

The students learnt about her work as part of the Year of the Nurse, and made a presentation to Health Minister David Ashford and staff from the Keyll Darree training centre, calling for her to be honoured.

These youngsters were delighted after hearing work on the garden will get underway next year:
