May temperatures highest on record

But average rainfall up 25%

Temperatures in May on the Isle of Man were the highest on record.

The average 24-hour temperature through the month was 13.1°C which exceeds the previous record of 12.9°C from 2008.

That’s two degrees above the 1991-2020 thirty-year average and three degrees above the 1961-1990 thirty-year average.

The warmest day was 18 May where 20.9°C was recorded at Ronaldsway.

Ronaldsway Met Office says the lack of cold nights contributed most to the record with the average minimum temperature for the month just 10.6°C.

Rainfall was around 25 percent higher than average with 32.9mm of rain falling on 22 and 23 May.

The average wind speed across the month was 8.7 knots which is around two knots below the long-term average and the seventh lowest on record.

Despite the record breaking temperatures the number of hours of sunshine was actually down around 15 percent with 195.2 hours recorded.
