Manxleaks launch regarded with some suspicion

There’s some scepticism online about a new organisation which claims to be the Manx equivalent of Wikileaks.

ManxLeaks announced its website had gone live on Friday, allowing people to securely and secretly leak documents they think should be made public.

But the group is closely guarding its members’ identities and has yet to offer journalists - on or off the record - the means to verify who they are dealing with.

Some internet users have questioned the group's motives and real purpose, despite an assurance from ManxLeaks the initiative gives people 'tools' to improve access to information they have a right to know about.

Roger Tomlinson of the Positive Action Group says he broadly supports its belief the Island needs a Freedom of Information law.

But he says the organisaiton's anonymity may arouse some misgivings among would-be whistleblowers:
