Manx group threatens Ashley Madison leak

Unverified data could mean legal action

A group on social media could face legal action after threatening to release Manx-related data this evening which was stolen from the Ashley Madison website.

So far, the group has published a number of email addresses: even though they may not necessarily be real as the dating website for married people doesn’t verify emails.

Those behind the Manx list say they’ve found around 3,300 Manx users so far, although the data cannot be verified.

The Office of the Data Protection Supervisor says  it’s monitoring the situation carefully.

And the group - as well as anyone who shares the information online - could also face civil action if those named sue for libel.
