Manx Gas rebate 'absolutely paramount' says MHK

Thomas says it's now a 'trust issue'

Honouring a promise to give gas customers a rebate will cost government hundreds of thousands of pounds but must be done.

That's the view of Douglas Central MHK Chris Thomas who believes it's 'absolutely paramount'.

The rebate was due to be funded by Manx Gas and the government if a voluntary regulatory agreement was reached.

However the energy supplier became independently regulated by the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority instead.

Mr Thomas admits it's been delayed for 'political reasons' but says that must change.
