Manx fungi under the microscope!

A new group has been set up to study the Island's fungi.

The aptly named Manx Fungi Group held its inaugural meeting recently and aims to bring together anyone on the Island who has an interest in mushrooms and toadstools, whether it be from a culinary point of view, or at a more scientific level.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture's Principal Bio-Diversity Officer Liz Charter has been a keen mushroomer for a number of years and was instrumental in the setting up of the new group.

She says there's a lot of interest on the island and hopes the new group can do some really useful work detailing the various species found here.

If you're interested in joining the group you can contact Liz on liz.charter@gov.im. The next meeting of the group is at the DEFA headquarters at St Johns on Tuesday 5th February at 7pm.
