Manx cat genome project funds needed

Expected to unveil 'rumpy', 'stumpy' and 'longy' sub-breeds

A project which is looking to map the genome of the Manx cat is progressing, but needs more cash to carry out its second set of tests.

It is attempting to find out why our nation's felines have evolved without a tail, and why a variation exists between the 'rumpy', 'stumpy' and 'longy' sub-breeds.

So far a healthy cat called Bonnag has had her genome mapped.

The project's head scientist Rachel Glover explains what the plan is now:
