Kevin Atherton has exhibited and performed around the world
Work by a Manx artist is currently on display at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
Kevin Atherton was born here in 1950 and completed his Foundation Studies at the Isle of Man College of Art in 1969 before building a career in the UK and Ireland.
He went on to become a part of the pioneering generation of artists in the UK who developed performance and video art in the 1970s.
Mr Atherton taught part time extensively at a number of art schools including the Slade, the Royal College of Art and Middlesex Polytechnic and was Principal Lecturer in charge of Fine Art Media at Chelsea College of Art, where he was also Project Leader of the ‘Virtual Reality as a Fine Art Medium Research Project’.
His public sculptures can be found across the UK and Ireland, including the Heritage England ‘listed’ sculpture ‘Platforms Piece’ at Brixton Railway Station in South London.
He has exhibited and performed around the world; including at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Francisco, Tate Britain, and the Museum of Modern Art Vienna.
His work is featured in the new exhibition 'Why be an artist?' alongside work by Isadora Epstein, Gary Farrelly, Séamus Nolan and Grace Weir.
It is open to the public until 15 February 2023.
