Douglas man wore hat and glasses in bid to buy cider
A Douglas man who wore a disguise to buy cider was breaching a licensing ban, a court’s heard.
Fifty-one-year-old Jonathan Richard Fletcher of Mona Street appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to breaching a licensing order as well as attempting to breach it on 14 November, and one count of wasting police time on 25 November.
Prosecution advocate Roger Kane told the court Fletcher was banned from buying alcohol or entering on-licensed premises after a court case in July.
Fletcher wore a hat and glasses when he went into Tesco at around 2pm on 14 November and bought two large bottles of cider – but when he returned and tried to buy more 15 minutes later he was recognised and staff called police.
On 25 November, Fletcher called 999 repeatedly, shouting abuse at an emergency services operator.
He was granted bail while the probation service compiles a pre-sentencing report, and will appear again on 30 January.
