Man taken to hospital after house fire in Port Erin

The Island’s Fire and Rescue Service says one man was taken to Noble’s Hospital earlier after a blaze in Port Erin.

Crews from Port Erin and Castletown was called to a house in Station Road at 11.40am after reports of a serious fire.

When they arrived, one man inside was unaccounted for – and had to be rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance, and his condition is currently unknown.

A total of three fire crews from Castletown and Port Erin spent around an hour tackling the blaze, which was contained in one room.

It’s been described by the emergency services as a “significant” fire which was fanned by this morning’s strong winds.

Station Road was closed for a short time, but has now reopened.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.
