Man 'followed woman with knife' to steal purse

Police urge public to be vigilant following theft in Douglas

Police are investigating after a man followed a woman and demanded her purse after showing her a weapon.

The incident happened at around 1am yesterday on Douglas promenade, near the junction with Broadway.

The man followed the woman from the Glen Falcon Gardens area, and returned in the direction from which he came after taking her purse, having shown her what's thought to be a knife.

He's described as a white male aged from mid teens to 30 years old, of skinny build and under six feet in height.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the male walking in the area prior to the theft, or who can help them identify the suspect.

The constabulary says this type of crime is rare on the Island, but the public is urged to remain vigilant.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact CID at Police Headquarters on 631212.
