Man charged with drug dealing and money laundering

Officers discovered £3,710 in a rucksack

A man’s appeared in court charged with dealing drugs and money laundering.

Thirty-four-year-old Matthew Pierce McCann of Woodbourne Square in Douglas appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Christopher Arrowsmith at Douglas courthouse.

He’s yet to enter pleas to allegations of possessing cannabis with intent to supply, possessing criminal property and attempting to remove criminal property.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court a parcel containing £2,650 was intercepted by police after it was posted from Strand Street in Douglas on 7 October.

Mr McCann was detained by police at a flat in Lord Street while they were investigating an unrelated matter.

Mrs Cubbon told the hearing they discovered Mr McCann had hidden £616-worth of cannabis down his trousers, and also had a receipt for the parcel.

Officers also discovered £3,710 in a rucksack which Mr McCann said he’d saved up.

He was bailed in the sum of £500 to appear in court again.
