Showroom employee abused during Bentley test drive
A businessman’s been fined after a test drive in a Bentley led to him abusing a car salesman.
Richard Malcolm Powell of Lhergy Cripperty in Union Mills appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas courthouse.
The 60-year-old pleaded guilty to a single charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on 16 July.
Prosecutor Chrissie Hunt told the hearing Powell had been banned from driving earlier this year, but requested a test drive at Jacksons Isle of Man in Braddan.
An employee at the showroom offered to drive Powell into Douglas, but while they were in the car Powell’s conversation made him feel uncomfortable.
He stopped the car outside Island Tyres and Exhausts on South Quay and told Powell the test drive was over – sparking a furious tantrum.
The court heard Powell had been convicted of a similar public order offence in 2015, and had convictions from earlier this year for theft and driving with no insurance.
Mrs Hughes described his behaviour as “completely unacceptable”, and imposed a £700 fine.
