Man admits further thefts from charity

Committed to court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing

A man who’s admitted stealing from the Home of Rest for Old Horses has appeared in court again.

Jonathan Ffinlo Pressley, of Alberta Drive in Onchan, pleaded guilty to a second theft charge when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

The hearing at Douglas courthouse was told he’d taken almost £17,000 from Dave Noble Gardening Ltd between August 2018 and February this year.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon said Pressley had befriended a company boss and offered to look through its accounts.

Thirty-seven-year-old Pressley then wrote in amounts on blank cheques and paid them to himself – over six months he took £16,850.

Mrs Hughes said that – and his previous guilty plea to stealing a large amount of building materials from the charity – made the case too serious for the summary courts.

She committed him to a Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing.

Pressley was bailed and will appear at the higher court on 3 June.
