Report highlights Islands' cause in negotiations
A report from a House of Lords Committee is urging the British Government to ensure the Isle of Man is fully involved throughout the forthcoming Brexit negotiations.
The committee's conclusions are drawn from evidence given by the Crown Dependencies late last year.
Appearing before the committee along with the first ministers of Jersey and Guernsey, was one of the first set-piece events as figurehead, that fell Howard Quayle's way as he took on the role of Chief Minister.
He and his colleagues appear to have persuaded the committee that the economic needs of the Island must be given full consideration when a new trade agreement with the EU bloc is thrashed out.
The report outlines the political growth of the three Islands and how the connections which presently exist under Protocol 3 are important to the well-being of the jurisdictions - particularly in terms of general trade, agriculture and animal welfare, and financial services.
Mr Quayle had underlined as examples, the export of Manx lightweight lambs to Greece, Italy and Germany and king scallops and queenies to the EU, as an example.
Committee chairman Lord Boswell urged the UK goverment to ensure the Crown Dependencies remain fully involved in the protracted departure process - and considered as new trade links are forged.
