"Let's call it 'The Cavendish Way'"

Calls for honours as Manx Missile equals TDF record

There are calls for the old Douglas to Peel Railway line to be renamed in honour of Mark Cavendish.

The Manx cyclist recently matched the record number of Tour de France stage wins with Eddie Merckx at a total of 34.

After yesterday's rest day in the tour, Cav sets off on three days of tough mountain stages in the Pyrenees.

If he gets through without falling outside the time limits, he will then have two opportunities, on Friday and then in Paris on Sunday to overtake the stage win record.

Meanwhile, a man who helped Mark Cavendish during his breakthrough years says the Island needs to better recognise his recent achievements.

Michael O'Hare was International Cycling Week Organiser for fifteen years, and remembers a young Cavendish making an impression at the Island Games in Guernsey.

He says the Isle of Man should do more to recognise Cav's achievements:
