Leading opponent of assisted dying to address local audiences

Dr Regnard invited by Manx Duty of Care

A prominent opponent of assisted dying in the UK is to address Island audiences at two venues next month.

Retired Palliative Care Medicine Consultant, Dr Claud Regnard is visiting the Island at the invitation of 'Manx Duty of Care' - an informal group of Manx health and social care workers opposed to assisted suicide.

Dr Regnard will address a public meeting in Douglas at The Lecture Theatre, Keyll Darree, Strang on the 16th of May. The following day he will speak at the Mountain View Innovation Centre, Ramsey. Both meetings begin at 7.30pm.

Consultant Anaesthetist, Matthew Biggart from Manx Duty of Care says Dr Regnard is an engaging speaker and an authority on the available reports and research.

Now clinically retired, Dr Regnard is an honorary consultant at St.Oswald's Hospice, Newcastle Upon Tyne. He maintains interests in assessing distress in individuals with communication difficulties, and helping others to understand the UK Mental Capacity Act, along with current learning in palliative care.

Born in London of French parents Dr Regnard studied medicine in Scotland.

Manx Duty of Care says it hopes his contribution will liven the debate on a life and death issue for the Island.
