Label will distinguish 'truly Manx' meat

DEFA boss wants local produce to stand out

A new initiative is seeking to make it clearer for shoppers to purchase genuine Manx meat.

The Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture is launching a charter for meat suppliers who rear and slaughter their products 100% locally - with those who do being given a clear, universal label of provenance.

Suppliers who sign up to the charter can also have samples scientifically analysed to verify their authenticity.

DEFA Minister Geoffrey Boot says it will be a 'great marketing opportunity' for butchers, and make it easier for consumers:
