Jersey announces Island-wide Covid-19 testing

Government buys 150,000 antibody tests from UK

The government of Jersey has today announced an Island-wide coronavirus antibody testing programme there.

It follows the purchase of 150,000 tests from a UK supplier, and the Channel Island says the first batch of 50,000 tests is due to arrive "in the next few weeks."

The test is to help determine who is and who is not immune to the virus.

It's also ordered 5,000 diagnostic test kits which detect the presence of the virus itself - not the antibodies.

The government of Jersey says the test will be performed by a simple pin prick, undertaken by trained staff - and because of Jersey's size, it's able to roll out the testing programme to all households there.
