Jail for Douglas man who shouted homophobic slur before attack

22-year-old sent to prison for 24 weeks

A Douglas man who shouted a homophobic slur before carrying out an unprovoked attack has been jailed.

Twenty-two-year-old Lewis Jack Moulder Kelly, of Empire Terrace, appeared before Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks at Douglas Courthouse.

He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Kelly carried out his attack on Broadway in Douglas, on 17 February, at around 10pm - he shouted homophobic abuse at two men before running across the road to throw punches at his victims.

One man received a cut to his eye - Kelly was arrested after a witness called police; during interview he said he couldn't recall the attack.

The attack happened around a month after Kelly was released from jail after serving a custodial sentence for an unprovoked attack on a teenager.

Kelly was jailed for 24 weeks and banned from entering on-licensed premises or purchasing alcohol for nine months.
