Customers told to contact the supplier from 'comfort of your own home'
Isle of Man Energy customers will no longer be able to visit the energy supplier in person unless they make an appointment.
The reception counter, based in Murdoch House in Douglas, is being closed from Monday (6 November).
The company says customers can manage their accounts, pay bills and 'do anything you need to do' from 'the comfort of your own home'.
People will have to make cash or cheque payments via the post office.
Those with queries are being told to visit the website or call the customer service team, on 01624 644444 instead.
The company has blamed the ‘changing needs of customers’ which means it needs to ‘adapt’ how it provides its service.
It adds it’s been increasing investment in its online and call centre offerings on the Island and in Glasgow.
'These improvements reflect the fact that most customers now prefer the convenience of managing their accounts online or over the phone from wherever they are, whenever they want.' - Isle of Man Energy
Isle of Man Energy adds it's launched an appointment service for customers, who are vulnerable or have ‘especially complex requirements', if they require face-to-face customer service.
These can be booked HERE.
The decision to close the reception counter is already being questioned by customers.
On the Isle of Man Energy Facebook post Lisa described the process of calling the customer service team in Scotland as 'awful' adding: "It's an awful service for the Isle of Man."
And Cara complained that the company doesn't sort issues out over email or phone adding: "The only way to get things sorted out is to go into the reception. Every time I've been in there has been a queue!"
Jo Cox is Chief Executive of Island's Energy Group - she told Lewis Foster the employees on the reception counter are not being made redundant:
