Island's low recycling rates highlighted

Douglas Councillor says Island is falling behind other areas

The Isle of Man has the lowest recycling rates out of all the surrounding jurisdictions including Jersey and Guernsey.

That's according to Douglas Councillor Falk Horning who is chair of the Environmental Services Committee.

Over the weekend there were reports of long queues at the civic amenity site in Douglas with some people struggling to adjust to the new system of fortnightly waste collections.

It comes after concerns have been raised by residents about the council's move to fortnightly general waste collection.

Mr Horning says the Island is falling far behind other areas when it comes to recycling:

The Eastern Civic Amenity Site has been contacted for a comment but has not responded.
