Island 'very fortunate' to be able to rely on local blood donors

The Isle of Man is 'very fortunate' to be able to rely on local blood donors particularly during the ongoing shortage of supplies in the UK.

That's from the Island's Blood Donor Service after it appealed for O positive and O negative donors to attend a drop in session earlier this week.

NHS England issued an amber alert last week warning that stocks across were critically low.

Forty-seven units of blood were collected which will negate Manx Care’s need to buy in a small percentage from the United Kingdom.

Manx Care says it does not have any supply issues but does not want to add any pressure to the NHS there.

All of the blood will be kept on Island.
