The Isle of Man may not have won as many medals as other countries – but according to one set of figures we’re the most successful country at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Statisticians in New Zealand have produced a medal table based on the size of a country’s population, which shows England – currently holding the most gold medals – only comes in eighth place.
And that’s because the country with a population of 53.5 million has just 0.62 medals per million people.
But the Island’s only medal in Glasgow so far – our silver in cycling – means we’ve won 11.76 medals per million people, putting us high above Samoa in second on 10.58.
Today, after gaining a silver medal on the track and being very close to a bronze, the Manx cyclists move to the roads at the Commonwealth Games.
The feature road races are on Sunday but today sees the Time Trials with Laura Wasley and Anna Christian in action just after ten o'clock this morning and the men off at lunchtime.
Veteran competitor Andrew Roche has been training hard back on the Island and only arrived in Glasgow a few days ago.
