Advocate says effects of excessive light are 'quite severe'
We need to tackle light pollution, not only to see our skies better at night, but to help "the planet in general".
That's the view of local astronomer Howard Parkin who was recently appointed dark skies advocate for the Isle of Man by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA).
The IDA is the recognised authority on light pollution and is the leading organisation combating light pollution worldwide.
It aims to provide 'leadership, tools, and resources for individuals, policymakers, and industry' to 'reduce light pollution and promote responsible outdoor lighting that is beautiful, healthy, and functional' around the world.
